July 4th events along the Salt Missions Trail


  • Moriarty Lion’s Club Annual Pancake Breakfast – monies raised will go to the Lions Club. Starts at 7am at the Lions Building in Moriarty. For more information call Don at 505-832-6330 or 505-410-1369.
  • Route 66 Arts Alliance hosting Art Show – 9am to 4pm at the Moriarty Civic Center. For more information contact Sandradrasilk@gmail.com.
  • A parade starts at 9am on Route 66 and ends at Crossley Park
  • There will be a car show outside of the Moriarty Civic Center
  • Tug of war between the Torrance County sheriff and fire departments starts at Noon at the Moriarty Lions Building
  • Bingo at 4pm at the Moriarty Lions Building


  • Luna Brothers Circus show at 7:30 on July 3rd at the baseball fields. Free coupons for kids at the Family Dollar
  • Live music, volleyball tournament and fishing derby at Arthur Park on July 4th. The pool will be open from Noon to 4pm.


  • On July 4th at 11am, there will be a barbecue lunch at Chavez Park hosted by the Mountainair fire department. There will be games, water polo, music and vendors.
  • A fundraiser Italian dinner will be held at the Bakery at 6:30pm on July 4th. Funds will go toward Mountainair’s animal control fund. For more information call Barbara 505-506-1415.
  • On July 4th at 4pm, there will be a poker tournament at the Dr. Saul Community Center followed by a pie auction at 6pm and a dance from 8pm to Midnight.
  • On July 5th there will be a pancake breakfast at the Shaffer Hotel dining room from 6-8am. It costs $6.25.



Pinto Bean Fiesta Fun in Moriarty!

Come join the fun at the annual Pinto Bean Fiesta in Moriarty on Saturday, October 12! Every year people from across the country and New Mexico gather in Moriarty to celebrate the new crop of pinto beans grown by farmers in the area. The celebration begins with a 7 a.m. pancake breakfast sponsored by the Lions Club, is followed by a 9 a.m. parade on Main Street (Old Route 66) and then adjourns for to the City Park (under the water tower) for more activities. There will be live entertainment, a car show, a horseshoe tournament, a bean and chili cook off, a glider display, activities for the kids, and a whole lot more.

Lots to Do on the Salt Missions Trail Scenic Byway!

Come on out to the Salt Missions Trail Scenic Byway communities this weekend and find something to do for just about everyone!

In Estancia, the Torrance County Fair will be wrapping up a week-long set of activities with a parade, the Junior Livestock Show, and the Torrance County 4-H barbecue at the Fairgrounds. A Country and Western Dance will top off the festivities on Saturday night at the Estancia Community Center. For a calendar of events, click on the Torrance County Fair link at torrancecountynm.org.

In Edgewood, the Route 66 Run, Rally, Rock Celebration will kick off with a 10 a.m. Parade and end with fireworks in the evening. There’s a lot of other stuff in between from car shows to dunk tanks and a business expo, so stop on by Edgewood to see what’s going on. You can also get more details at edgewoodchambernm.com.

In Tijeras, the Village will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of its incorporation, with live music, a silent auction and other activities from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Contact dklaus@villageoftijeras.com for more information.


Come search for treasure on the Salt Missions Trail Scenic Byway on Saturday June 1! Kay’s RV Camp is hosting a benefit rummage sale that day to support Paws and Stripes, the nonprofit organization that assists veterans to rescue dogs from local shelters and train them as service animals: “helping dogs, helping heroes.” The event is at Kay’s RV, 1/2 mile west of Moriarty on Old Route 66. Further south on NM41, the Estancia Masonic Lodge is hosting a mile-long yard sale in Estancia that same day. Come and join the fun, whether you’re a buyer or seller! The sale starts at 7 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. No cost to sellers.
