Have a Cooler, Less Crowded Fourth of July

Did you know that the day time temperatures in the communities along the Salt Missions Trail Scenic Byway typically run 5 to 10 degrees cooler than those in the Albuquerque area? If you are looking for a little relief from the heat during the Independence Day celebrations, head east to the Salt Missions Trail and enjoy some old fashioned July Fourth fun!

The Fourth of July parade in Moriarty starts at 9 a.m. and is followed by an Arts and Crafts Fair (with food) in the City Park. If you can’t come on the Fourth, join the fun on Saturday and Sunday (July 6 and 7th) for the Wiseman Circuit Bull Riding events at the Moriarty arena. Go to www.wisemanrodeo.com for more information.

In Estancia, the annual Fourth of July Fishing Derby at Arthur Park will begin at 7 a.m. for fishers 65 and older and at 7:30 a.m. for the kids. There will be prizes for everything from the largest fish to the smallest. Stop on by and have some fun! The swimming pool opens on the Fourth, as well, so you can cool off even more, if you bring your swim suit!

In Mountainair, the Fourth of July Jubilee is scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Chavez Memorial Park. If you arrive early enough, you’ll be able to buy some fresh vegys and other goodies at the Farmers Market on US60. And check out the Outlaw BBQ and Charity Poker Tournament going on that day too! Go to  www.outlawbbq.org for more information.
