An original musical history about Mountainair’s bean field era will be presented by the “children of the bean fields” in Mountainair on Saturday, August 11. “Diamonds in the Field” reflects the tradition of old-time musical get togethers and tells of the joys of Mountainair when it was the pinto bean capital of the world in the years before the 1930’s drought, and the sorrows afterward.
“Diamonds in the Field” is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m., following the 6 p.m. dedication of the “Tribute to Mountainair” mural at the B-Street Market. It will be held in the WPA-era Dr. Saul Community Center. A suggested donation of $5 is requested, to benefit the Manzano Mountain Art Council, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
